From from puppies development to manners, first aide, grooming, we have it all for you!
Canine Cadre is a 30-year-old organization based in Wallingford, Connecticut. We run a variety of programs in Central CT and lead an intensive and comprehensive private class schedule. We are one of the rare organizations that can tailor a program to fit you and your pet’s needs.
Together with their associates, Canine Behavior experts Len and Mary Ellen “ME” Paquette bring their understanding of the canine psyche into the training, troubleshooting and behavior modification process to ensure the maximum benefit for you, your family and your pet’s relationship.
Canine Cadre’s Puppy Headstart Program is and was one of the first of its kind in Connecticut. The PHP educates not only puppies but the owners as well on how to socialize, what it is, and why it is so critical. The benefits of socialization include developing natural bonding techniques, troubleshooting potential challenges for the puppy and knowing how to do it right the first time.
We diagnose and remedy behavioral problems from house soiling, separation anxiety to aggression.
We offer a variety of canine training courses such as:
– Canine Distraction Classes
– Canine Awareness Class
– Canine First Aide Class

– Police Dog Training
– Internationale Prüfungs-Ordnung (I.P.O.) Dog Training

– Narcotics Dog Training
Lenny Paquette began his career as a USAF Patrol Dog Handler, Law Enforcement during the Vietnam era. Seeking a better understanding of the canine psyche he next apprenticed under a German Behavioral Biologist in the first federal program of its kind. Initially starting his business in 1977. Lenny and eventually his wife Mary Ellen, combined behavioral understanding and obedience whether for home, Schutzhund (IPO) , therapy dogs, hearing ear dogs, narcotics dogs, SAR (search and rescue) dogs, and many other endeavors. Whether providing behavioral counseling for aggression, separation anxiety, barking, or chewing, we tend to provide a positive approach to behavior modification using training in drive. As a former competitor in the AKC obedience ring, and current competitor in the IPO ring, Lenny brings this expertise to the troubleshooting process as well. Lenny is also an Importer of German Line German Shepherd Dogs from Europe.
Lenny has appeared on Channel 2 CBS in New York regarding canine behavior. Lenny also has been a consultant for the FBI in New Haven, CT and other federal agencies. Lenny has trained narcotics dogs for the Meriden CT Police Department and for his own business searching businesses and private schools for narcotics.
Lenny began Canine Cadre while attending Central Connecticut State University in 1977 initially majoring in psychology and matriculated to business management. He began apprenticing in 1978 to enhance his ability to apply his understanding as a canine behaviorist/trainer. Lenny has worked with luminaries like Paul Newman, Scott Burrell, a fine gentleman who worked and loved his dog, and Ted Christopher, a NASCAR driver who trained all of his dogs with Lenny and became a lasting friend. Lenny treats everyone like a celebrity because dog owners love their dogs and know what love is. The British say, “you end up having the dog you deserve”, If you apply yourself, you will have more than the dog, you will have trained with Lenny.
Kathy Stephens has been a trainer for several years and has been a full time associate of Canine Cadre for the past year. She was involved in a Canine Cognition Study at Yale University during the time she joined Canine Cadre in 2018. In the past she has competed in American Kennel Club and obedience trials and became to realize that her more in-depth understanding of the canine psyche has brought her up to a new level of competence from a teaching/training aspect. Her love and dedication to our pooches is clear and she is a joy to work with.
Jeff Mastropetre has trained at Canine Cadre since 2017, after completing the training program of his dog “Blue” in foundation, intermediate and advanced training. He decided to become an associate of Canine Cadre because of the challenge of training, learning and IPO competition. His growth as a professional is both praiseworthy and notable. Jeff is an effective teacher and uses his behavioral knowledge, and training experience, to bring our therapy programs to another level.
